About Kumen

Biography
Kumen was born in Tucson, Arizona and raised in southern Arizona and southern California. In his youth he worked as a logger in Wyoming, and a farm hand in Utah. He served a mission for his Church in El Salvador and in Panama, becoming fluent in Spanish.
​
He worked full time supporting his young family while he attended college full time, receiving his undergraduate degree, with honors, in Spanish from Weber State University in Ogden, Utah. He graduated with honors from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 1991.
​
Since graduation, he has lived, and been licensed to practice law in Idaho, Utah and Nevada and the federal district courts of those states. He currently is actively licensed and practicing in Utah and Nevada.
​
Kumen specializes in trial practice, having taken more than 50 cases to verdict before the trial courts of all three states, plus Texas and California. He has nearly 30 years’ experience as a trial attorney. Kumen is highly successful in the court and has a nearly unmatched success rate.

Mr. Taylor began his legal career in Idaho in 1991, trying—and winning—his first jury trial less than two years later. He practiced in Idaho for 7 years and developed a fearless reputation for trying and winning cases.

He then moved to Utah where he worked in-house with a national corporation managing its litigation and trial practice throughout the United States and Canada, handling and trying
its Utah and Idaho cases.
​
In 2006 he was hired by a large Nevada firm to open their Utah office. His Nevada practice became so busy that he moved there in 2010. He handled many multimillion dollar cases successfully for the firm in Nevada, eventually becoming its go-to trial attorney in Nevada. At the same time he handled a busy and successful Utah trial practice.

In 2017, Mr. Taylor left the Nevada firm, eventually opening his own law office, practicing in Nevada and Utah.

A judge in the Third Judicial District in Salt Lake County who presided over a trial involving more than $5,000,000 in damages, in which Kumen obtained the winning verdict for his client, told the jury after the trial that Kumen was one of the best trial attorneys in the State of Utah.
